NM FIESTA Project Training: Antisocial Personality Disorder
May 1 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm MDT

By the end of this session, foster and adoptive parents will understand what Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) is, how it develops, and how it differs from other behavioral or conduct disorders. They will be able to identify the key characteristics and warning signs of ASPD, including lack of empathy, manipulative behavior, disregard for rules and others’ rights, and absence of remorse. Parents will learn about the neurobiology underlying ASPD and understand that early intervention, environmental factors, and trauma history play significant roles in its development. They will develop realistic expectations about their child’s capabilities and limitations, implement appropriate boundaries and safety protocols in their home, and apply evidence-based parenting strategies that balance accountability with compassion. Parents will also learn when professional support is necessary, how to advocate for their child within the mental health and educational systems, and how to protect their family while maintaining hope and commitment to their child’s growth and change.
